From the Fire Chief’s Desk

Welcome to our website - and thank you for your interest and support of our fire company.

The BFD's origins go back to the early 1980s when the hot springs community began training and equipping themselves for local structure and wildland fires. Far removed from other firefighting agencies, community members learned to extinguish fires with limited resources. Due to the history of numerous structure fires in both the hot springs and summer homes communities, in 2002 I was brought in as a training consultant to begin more advanced fire training.  Within two years we had formed what is now the Breitenbush Fire Department or BFD, maintaining three emergency vehicles for the area, and 10-20 volunteers. Today our team trains in multiple disciplines for first response - structural and wildland firefighting, search and rescue, and more.

September 2013 we dedicated our primary firehouse for the three emergency vehicles thanks to the efforts of many, both volunteer and paid, and hundreds of donors over 10 years!  A brass firepole and two huge gold radiators all from firehouses in Portland adorn the apparatus bay floor.  Bricks engraved with the names of donors who helped build our firehouse line the walkway at the building's entrance.

Once again, thank you one and all for the ongoing support of our fire company - without you it wouldn't be possible. Please call upon us with any fire safety concerns or questions, we're here to help.
